You never know what, but something magical always happens on the San Marcos River! Whether it’s a heart pounding strike from a Largemouth Bass, an Osprey diving for a fish, or a marvelous sunset to end the perfect day, the San Marcos River never disappoints.

The San Marcos River bubbles up from the ground at Aquarena Springs on the Campus of Texas State University. 200 artesian springs combine to pump over 100 million gallons of water a day creating one of Texas’ finest bass fisheries. It’s no wonder people have been inhabiting the banks of the river for over 12,000 years.

As it meanders through the prairie to it’s eventual confluence with the Guadalupe River the Cypress lined banks provide ample cover for Largemouth Bass as well as the National Fish of Texas, the Guadalupe Bass. Smallmouth Bass, Perch, Rio Grande Cichlid, and Catfish also inhabit the river and can be caught if you’re lucky enough to spend a day on this majestic river.
